Use 3 Cups water per 1 Cup dry bean/lentil mix. Add 1-2 tsp oil, if desired. For making bean/lentil soups increase amount of water. For making bean/lentil salad reduce amount of water.


1. Soak lentil mix for 15-20 minutes. 2. Rinse thoroughly and drain water. 3. Add 3 cups of water per 1 cup of dry lentil mix in a wide pot and heat on low uncovered. 4. Once the water is at the level of the lentil, cover the pot. 5. Allow to sit for 10-15 minutes. Serve hot or cold.

Electric Cooker/Microwave:

1. Prep lentil mix same as above 2. Use 3 cups water per 1 cup of lentil mix and add to a microwave safe dish or electric cooker 3. Heat for 15-20 minutes on medium heat covered. Serve hot or cold.

  • Rinse the dal mix thoroughly
  • Soak in water for 1-2 hours
  • Add the lentils in a pressure cooker
  • Pour water till a level that is slightly above the lentils
  • Add some salt and turmeric
  • Pressure cook for 3-4 whistles
  • Take a frying pan and add 1-2 tbsp of oil to it
  • Add cumin seeds and wait till they splutter
  • Add ginger garlic paste and saute well
  • Then add some onions and sate again till brown in colour
  • Add some tomatoes, green chillies, coriander powder
  • Cook till oil separates
  • Whisk the dal slightly and pour into the pan
  • Mix well and add some water if needed
  • Adjust the consistency of the dal
  • Serve with rice/ bread, as per liking
